Unemployment and the economy have much to do with crime.  Agencies in inner cities, when they create jobs, watch crime statistics go down.  When employment goes up, crime goes down.  When unemployment goes up, crime goes up.  The problems with employment and crime are very intertwined.  As more people become unemployed, especially men, they can usually find some kind of part time jobs to hold them over until they can find a full-time job.  What is different now is that there aren’t even many part-time jobs.  So, many people just give up looking for a job and live off their benefits or severance as long as they can.  When the benefits run out, and there are still no jobs, people become desperate.  Many resort to petty crimes to survive and feed their families.  Crimes like thefts, robberies, and property crimes go up because these are the “secret” crimes.  They are secret because the
