The world event that has overshadowed all others this week is the earthquake in Nepal. It was a very powerful 7.8 quake that caught everyone off-guard as earthquakes always do.
Earthquakes are a sudden shock to your system, your city, your region, and your environment. Your day-to-day routine is jolted away from you and everything changes in an instant.
The devastation and destruction of the Nepal quake was very high. The death toll has reached into the thousands and continues to rise. Many ancient structures crumbled and their history goes with them.
When something like this happens in the world everyone’s focus is directed to it. While all people feel bad and their hearts go out to the people they also think, thank goodness it wasn’t me. There’s a display of selfishness and selflessness at the same time. People around the world and governments rally to help those affected by such a disaster.
For awhile the world’s attention is taken away from wars and all the other negative things that you usually hear about in the daily news. From our perspective, it’s a shame that something like this terrible earthquake has to happen for humanity to feel human.
